9/1/2020 The Desert TortiseLets first talk about the Desert Tortoise, this animal is endangered and needs protection, so please HELP to save what we once had. The numbers of the Desert Tortoise, estimates indicate that there are about 100,000 currently left in the wild, desert tortoises existing in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. Also known as the gopher tortoise, the desert tortoise lives in the deserts of southern California to southern Nevada, western Arizona, and northern Mexico. Listed as threatened, the desert tortoise population has changed in numbers by 90% since the 1980s due to vandalism, predication, disease, and collection for pets (now illegal).
